Health Effects:

Providing information regarding Chlorine is like Beating A Dead Horse. We know it has a Dark Side, but a Necessary Evil for Water Sanitation. Drinking and bathing in clean healthy water is crucial to optimal health and vitality.

The sole purpose of chlorine is to kill living organisms. There are living things in water that will make you sick and Chlorine does the trick to keep you safe from them.  Not all bacteria and microbes are bad. Billions of bacteria live on our body and in our gut to keeps us healthy in a symbiotic relationship. Bathing and drinking chlorinated water designed to kill bacteria will have an effect on your immune system.

Chlorine kills anything

Chlorine has the ability to react with organic matter. Chemical reactions with Chlorine can produce toxic byproducts (some cancer causing), such as the trihalomethanes (THMs), haloacetic acids (HAAs), and chlorite which are regulated in the US. There are also emerging DBPs such as halonitromethanes, haloacetonitriles, haloamides, halofuranones, iodo-acids such as iodoacetic acid, iodo-THMs (iodotrihalomethanes), nitrosamines, and more that are yet to be regulated.

Health and Longevity in August 1994 reported:

The skin, the body’s largest organ, can easily absorb contaminants found in water which pass through it into the bloodstream.  The experts are just beginning to understand the potential health hazards from skin absorption of water contaminants.

You also inhale Chloroform (chlorine byproduct) during a hot shower. Warm water opens your pores even more which further increases absorption. Studies at the University of Pittsburgh found absorption through the skin (on average) is responsible for 64 % of water borne contaminants entering the human body.  That means a ten minute shower will contaminate your body with more chlorine that drinking eight glasses of the same water.

The EPA guidelines for Chlorine in water is 4 mg/L or 4 ppm.
