Salt-Based Water Softener Set up

Scale deposits from hardness buildup can affect fixtures and appliances found throughout the entire home or business. Hard water is not bad for your health, but it alone can cause many problems in plumbing and appliances and is considered a nuisance by many homeowners. For this reason, hardness is typically addressed with treatment of water for the whole house or building rather than just at a specific faucet. Hardness minerals can be reduced in water for the whole house to make it “softer” by installing a water softener.

Our water softener will save you money from the very moment you begin to use them. It prevents hard water damage to your plumbing, water heater, and other major appliances making them actually last longer. Our water softening systems can also significantly reduce the amount of soap, detergents, and cleaners you use by as much as 80% less!

There is no magic that makes one water tank better than another. The determining factor of a high quality Salt Based Water Softener is the valve. Water Softeners reduce the hardness of the water in your home by removing the iron, calcium, and magnesium. These elements tend to scale up your water lines and appliances in your home. Reducing the hardness allows you to use less soap in the washing machine and dishwasher. Reducing the hardness also makes your skin and hair softer because you don’t use as much soap in the shower. The water softener performs this task by replacing the iron, calcium, and magnesium with salt. So it uses salt every time the resin is regenerated.

  • You should not drink softened water or water landscaping with softened water because of the sodium levels in the water. A reverse osmosis system needs to be installed at your kitchen sink to remove the salt. (We hold ourselves to a higher standard. Selling a Water Softener without this safe guard for your health is not an option for City Water Filter!)
  •  Sometimes on older homes, plumbing needs to be bypassed in order to not irrigate with softened water.
  • When purchasing a salt-based water softener, it is important to consider the ongoing cost of adding salt on a regular basis. How often salt will need to be added depends on the hardness of your water, water usage, and how often your tank needs to regenerate.
    • Note: the hardness level may fluctuate as the years go by.

Q&A

  1. What kind of water flow rate should I expect once a whole house system is installed?
Nearly the same as you have now. You will not detect a difference in the shower.
  2. How much water should I expect to be wasted once the system is installed?
Water softener uses 40 gallons per month to recharge.  Total water cost would be a few dollars.
  3. Do you support or recommend any twin tank water softeners?
No, not necessary and they add quite a bit of expense to the project.
